You’re eligible to enroll in Medicare starting three months before your 65th birthday, through your birth month, and three months after—that’s your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP). It’s best to sign up early to avoid delays in coverage.
Not necessarily. If you’re still working and have creditable coverage through your employer (or your spouse’s), you can delay Part B without a penalty. Once that coverage ends, you’ll have a Special Enrollment Period to sign up for Medicare.
Original Medicare includes: Part A – Hospital coverage (inpatient care, skilled nursing, hospice) Part B – Medical coverage (doctor visits, outpatient care, preventive services) It doesn’t cover most dental, vision, hearing, or prescription drugs—that’s where Medicare Advantage, Medigap, or Part D plans come in.
Most people get Part A free if they’ve worked 10 years. Part B has a monthly premium, which in 2025 is around $185, but it may be higher based on your income. Additional costs depend on which plan you choose (Medicare Advantage, Medigap, or Prescription Drug Plans).
What’s the difference between Medicare Advantage and Medigap?
Medicare Advantage: An all-in-one alternative that includes Part A, B, and often Part D, along with extra benefits (dental, vision, gym memberships, etc.). These are private plans with network-based coverage. Medigap (Supplement Plans): Pays secondary to Original Medicare to cover costs like copays, deductibles, and coinsurance. You’ll also need to purchase a separate Part D plan.
If you don’t have creditable coverage and delay enrolling in Part B or Part D, you may face a late enrollment penalty—and it could last for life. That’s why it’s so important to get this right the first time
Which one is better—Medicare Advantage or Medigap (supplement)?
It depends on your healthcare needs, travel habits, budget, and doctor preferences. We help clients compare both options side by side so you can choose what fits best for your situation.
With Original Medicare + Medigap (supplement), you can see any doctor nationwide that accepts Medicare. Medicare Advantage plans have networks, so we’ll check to make sure your preferred providers are in-network.
You are at the right place! We can help guide you through the process or verify if you even need to enroll yet.
